Code named the ADO71, and was available either badged as an Austin, or in the upmarket livery of either the Wolseley or the Vanden Plas.
The first models of the Princess were manufactured between 1975 and 1978, and then as a facelifted model, badges as the Princess 2 between 1978 and 1981. In 1982 the princess was replaced by a new hatchback version called the Austin Ambassador.
The Princess is immediately identifiable by its unique Wedge shape body. These cars are a very rare sight on British roads, and even on the show circuit, they are very few and far between, but to drive one of these large family cars is an experience that everyone should have, as the ride on these cars is so smooth for a car that is so affordable. For its time, it would be hard to find anything else in this price bracket that would get anywhere near to it.
